FROM THE CREATOR OF ‘HAMILTON’

It’s here! Jubilant, unapologetically massive, and bursting with a cozy, melancholic sense of communal belonging, “In The Heights” is the biggest-screen-you-can-find Hollywood event that we the movie lovers have been craving since the early days of the pandemic, when the health crisis cut off one of our most cherished public lifelines. A dazzling New York movie that honors the diverse Latinx communities of Upper Manhattan like its boisterous source—the multi-award-winning stage musical that put Lin-Manuel Miranda on the showbiz map before his fame exploded with “Hamilton”—this exuberant screen adaptation (with at least one delightful “Hamilton” Easter Egg) is ready to welcome you back into your neighborhood cinema with open arms, daring to light up that dark room in ways much bigger and brighter than you might remember.

A heart-racing spy story by Alfred Hitchcock, The 39 Steps follows Richard Hannay (Robert Donat) as he stumbles upon a conspiracy that thrusts him into a hectic chase across the Scottish moors—a chase in which he is both the pursuer and the pursued—as well as into an unexpected romance with the cool Pamela (Madeline Carroll). Adapted from a novel by John Buchan, this classic wrong-man thriller from the Master of Suspense anticipates the director’s most famous works (especially North by Northwest), and remains one of his cleverest and most entertaining films.

Director: Alfred Hitchcock

NOW, VOYAGER with Bette Davis: Classic Film Fest

King’s Theatre’s Classic Film Fest continues with NOW, VOYAGER, the great 1942 romance starring Bette Davis

Nervous spinster Charlotte Vale (Bette Davis) is stunted from growing up under the heel of her puritanical Boston Brahmin mother (Gladys Cooper), and remains convinced of her own unworthiness until a kindly psychiatrist (Claude Rains) gives her the confidence to venture out into the world on a South American cruise. On board, she finds her footing with the help of an unhappily married man (Paul Henreid). Their thwarted love affair may help Charlotte break free of her mother’s grip—but will she find fulfillment as well as independence? Made at the height of Davis’s reign as the queen of the woman’s picture and bolstered by an Oscar-winning Max Steiner score, Now, Voyager is a melodrama for the ages, both a rapturous Hollywood romance and a poignant saga of self-discovery.

FODAR: PROGRAM ONE – LIVE ON STAGE AT KING’S THEATRE

Program 1 showcases an eclectic mix of works including Dancing in the Third Act, and international award-winning dancer Sarah Murphy in acclaimed choreographer, teacher and dance historian Carol Anderson’s powerful classic, Allegro Mysterioso (1983). Also on the Program, Dawn Shepherd and Ryan Gray of Breaking Circus perform a stunning new straps duet.

Dancing in the Third Act

FODAR brings back the production that started it all. The Company of Angels returns in Dancing in the Third Act (2013). The work runs on all four nights in both Program 1 and 2. Choreographed by Randy Glynn, this powerful and thoroughly engaging work was a hit with critics and audiences alike and toured to other Canadian dance festivals.  Working with dancers ranging in age from 65 to 80+, Glynn has created a visually dynamic full-length work that is a poignant, dramatic and whimsical look at the ups and downs (literally) of aging.
