A film portrait of the creative community of women writers, artists, photographers and editors (including Colette, Djuna Barnes, Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas) who flocked to the Left Bank of Paris in the early decades of the 20th century.

- Tamdhu 10 YO – This is a Speyside Malt that possesses more colour than you would expect from a 10 year old single malt. (The age statement reflects the youngest whiskey in the bottle, so there may be some older whisky in the blend). The malt was aged 10 years exclusively in Sherry casks, so expect some significant fruit and woodiness. The nose is complex and the palate is wonderfully sweet and smooth.
- Craigellachie 13 YO – Another Speyside Malt, Craigellachie is considered a traditionally made Single Malt using traditional equipment, producing a whisky that is a bit of a departure from a typical Speyside Malt. Craigellachie is viscous and complex with explosive fruit and a hint of smoke. Very few single malt expressions have been released by this distillery, so get ready for a real treat.
The event will take place at the NEW EVENT SPACE at Fort View Golf Course. Tickets are available through King’s Theatre.

Our City Dreams – by Chiara Clemente
Filmed over the course of two years, Our City Dreams is the story of a woman’s struggles and successes as an artist in New York City. Told through five women artists, from youngest to oldest, the film features Swoon, Ghada Amer, Kiki Smith, Marina Abramovic, and Nancy Spero.

Has the Garrison Graveyard in Annapolis Royal revealed clues in the search for ancestral Acadian gravesites? What were the results of the ground-penetrating radar? You’re invited to join us Wednesday, January 30th at 1PM at King’s Theatre in Annapolis Royal, as we report on our discoveries.
Mapannapolis, and its partners Boreas Heritage and Parks Canada’s Fort Anne National Historic Site, were joined on this project by NSCC’s Applied Geomatics Research Group.
From The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge EXHIBITION ON SCREEN journeys from a superb exhibition at The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, whose extensive collection of Degas’ works is the most representative in Britain, to the streets of Paris. With exclusive access to view rare and diverse works, this film tells the fascinating story of Degas’ pursuit for perfection through both experimentation with new techniques and lessons learnt from studying the past masters. Sometimes frustrated by his own failings, Degas was consumed by obsessive principles and failing eye sight but his determination to capture everyday life was evident in every mark he made. Never fully satisfied, many of Degas’ drawings and sculptures were kept in private during his lifetime but, now through close examination, they can be seen as some of the most beautifully detailed and expressive works in the modern era. Using written accounts by friends and commentators, and the narration of letters written by Degas himself, this film reveals a more complex truth behind one of the most influential French artists of the late 19th-century and serves as an exploration of the complex workings of Degas’ artistic mind. “Art is not a matter of what you see, but what you make other people see.” Edgar Degas- Adults: $12.15 (+ HST = $14)

King’s Theatre is pleased to announce the creation residency of Atlantic Canada’s leading contemporary dance company, Mocean Dance from February 10-15, 2019. During this time, Mocean’s Co-Artistic Director Sara Coffin will work on a new creation, Inside Wild, while experimenting with new multimedia elements and set design possibilities for the new, original work.
Joining Sara are dance artists Anastasia Weibe, Julie Robert, Lydia Zimmer & Georgia Skinner as well as collaborators multimedia artist Nick Bottomly & composer/multidisciplinary artist Brian Riley as they experiment with multimedia elements and set design for the new work.
King’s Theatre patrons are invited to join some of Nova Scotia’s most innovative dance and theatre artists for a work-in-progress sharing for an intimate behind-the-scenes look at how contemporary dance is made along with an artist talk that will explore the working progress when incorporating multimedia elements to help tell a story.
Workshops
On Friday February 15, Mocean Dance will also be offering movement workshops and hands-on learning opportunities for community members and local area schools.
There will be a Youth-focused workshop from 10am-12pm and an Adult workshop from 1-3pm. Both workshops will start at ARTsPLACE and end at King’s Theatre. No experience necessary! Space is limited, so contact the Theatre to reserve a spot. Admission is by donation.

The Halifax-based contemporary dance company Mocean Dance will be in residency at King’s Theatre from Feb 10-15 working on a new piece by Sara Coffin called Wild Inside. There will be a public presentation on Thursday February 14 at 6pm (admission by donation) of what they’ve been working on (artist talk and mini-performance).
On Friday Feb 15 at 1-3pm, they will be offering a Wild Inside Movement workshop for All. It will start at ARTsPLACE (upstairs) and move down the street to the Theatre for some work on-stage. No experience is necessary! But space for each is limited to 30 people, so you need to sign up at the Theatre. Admission by donation.

Led by Co-Artistic Directors Susanne Chui and Sara Coffin, this versatile creation company commissions Canadian choreographers and company members to create dance that is highly physical, collaborative, and technically and emotionally rich. Mocean Dance tours internationally, delivering performances that engage audiences, and offering outreach activity to support the growth of contemporary dance in Canada.
