We are delighted to welcome YOUNG COMPANY PRODUCTIONS back to the King’s Theatre stage with an original production of Lewis Carroll’s classic story, ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND.
“Curiouser and curiouser”. And so begins Alice’s journey into Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland of entertaining encounters with a veritable host of bizarre creatures from a Dodo, Mock Turtle, dancing lobsters, and of course the White Rabbit and the March Hare. Young Company Productions is delighted to be back with a fresh and original adaptation of this well-loved and classic tale.
YCP has already brought forth the thought provoking and challenging ‘Mind-Shift’ presentation last spring, and on Canada Day the troupe had wowed audiences with their evocative production of ‘Shakespeare by The Shore’ at the Oqwa’titek Amphitheatre. Now they’re back and bigger than ever, rising to the challenge of bringing to life “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, this time on the main stage of Annapolis Royal’s King’s Theatre for three performances March 29, 30, and 31st.
Co-directors Linda Hulme-Leahy and Simon Bonnington are thrilled to be working with the cast of 29 keen and eager young thespians. And with their new adaptation, taken straight from Carroll‘s original text, they have free reign to craft the production for our local stage.
We very much hope you’ll enjoy the show. And if you don’t? “Off with their heads!”

Eric Harper’s live show is a spectacle. Bending his hilarious and heart-felt story-telling with his mad, virtuosic Flamenco/Fado guitar skills and soulful voice, you are guaranteed to laugh, cry and dance in your seat.
Eric is an multi-award winning musician who creates a style that is not only all his own, but his music is melodically entrancing, virtuosically ferocious and harmonically soul-stirring to the core.
Hatched from a small “po-dunk” town in Arkansas, tempered by the hard-worn guitarists of Portugal, inspired by the fantastical Flamenco from Gypsies in Spain, modernized by the transformative education of Berklee College of Music in Boston and currently camping out amongst the Canucks in Canada, Eric brings a fusion of music never experienced before by a “redneck”.
Eric released his first solo album in 2008 entitled “Romper a Madrugada” which was played in countries all over the world from Portugal to Brazil, the Azores and Madeira island, Canada and the States. After that he release his self-titled CD “Eric Harper”, in 2010, garnering the attention of people like Rainn Wilson from The Office and Grammy-Award Winning Producer KC Porter.
In 2013 he released his instrumental CD entitled “Ribeira” showcasing his virtuosic guitar skills. Since 2000 Eric has won multiple awards not only for his guitar skills but also for his Film Scoring talents. He has had music placed on over 600 TV shows to date and has scored several movies. He has performed all around the globe from Portugal to China, Canada to Mexico, Switzerland to Israel, France to Spain and many more countries.

Hirokazu Kore-eda (After the Storm; Our Little Sister; Like Father, Like Son) continues to tell stories of complicated familial relationships in his latest feature, Shoplifters. Winner of the 2018 Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, the film explores the ways in which the comfort and security of a loving family can sometimes overshadow morally questionable behaviour.
Osamu (Lily Franky), his wife, Nobuyo (Sakura Andô), and their family are struggling to live in Tokyo off pension money and the income from their low-paying jobs. As a result, they turn to shoplifting as a means of survival. One day, when Osamu is shoplifting with his son Shota (Jyo Kairi), they come across Yuri (Miyu Sasaki), a young girl who appears to be homeless. They bring her home for dinner and, soon after discovering signs of abuse, decide to take her in as one of their own, eventually training her in the “family business.” When the family hears that Yuri’s abusive parents are looking for her, they cut her hair and rename her Rin to keep her safe.
While it is clear the family will go to almost any lengths to gain financial stability, Rin’s new family provides her with a loving, supportive, and nurturing environment. Shoplifters asks the audience to consider which life is more desirable: one full of love and support but that is tied to unethical and illegal actions, or a life that is “approved” but ultimately empty.
- Directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda
- Starring Lily Franky, Sakura Andô, Jyo Kairi, and Miyu Sasaki

“Shoplifters is compassionate, socially conscious filmmaking with a piercing intelligence that is pure Kore-eda. This is a film that steals in and snatches your heart.” –The Telegraph
“A tender ensemble piece whose skillful performances dovetail into a perfectly symphonic whole, Shoplifters is a work of such emotional delicacy and formal modesty that you’re barely prepared when the full force of what it’s doing suddenly knocks you sideways.” –Los Angeles Times
“Kore-Eda is working up to something else, steering the story he’s built so carefully toward an utterly unexpected detour. As much of what we think we know unravels, the film becomes not just an enjoyable, intermittently poignant portrait of imperfect people but a profound meditation on the meaning of family.” –Entertainment Weekly

Juno-Award winner Catherine MacLellan, one of Canada’s finest and favourite singer-songwriters, brings her theatrical show If It’s Alright With You to King’s Theatre on Satruday April 13 at 7:30pm.
The show celebrates the legacy of her late father Gene MacLellan, one of the country’s most famous songwriters. Nearly 50 years ago wrote the world-wide, multi-million selling smash hits “Snowbird” and “Put Your Hand in the Hand”. From his Prince Edward Island home he penned songs that Anne Murray, Elvis Presley, Loretta Lynn, Chet Atkins, Joan Baez and Ocean turned into worldwide chart-toppers and repertoire standards. These songs propelled him to fame , and remain the gold standard for Canadian songwriting.
Catherine MacLellan’s show If It’s Alright With You is filled with stories from her father’s life, from surprising revelations to intimate descriptions of their time together. It will feature the familiar hits, as well as lesser-known and even unreleased songs she’s discovered in her family archives. “I want to share my dad’s music and it’s also an opportunity for me to get to know him better. The more I get to know his songs, the closer I feel to him” she said.
Catherine’s father died while she was still in her mid-teens in 1995. “I think really for me it was part of my journey of healing. Now that my daughter is eleven, and I’m starting to see my brother’s kids playing music and they’re even playing some of dad’s songs, I see the generational thing is really cool. I’m really proud to be walking in his footsteps. He would be happy to know that his songs continue on, being remembered and given a new spark,“ she said. “A young, regular guy, from a regular upbringing, very humble beginnings, what one guy can do.”
With her grace and charm, Catherine has captivated audiences since her 2004 solo debut. She’s capable of the deepest emotional connections through her intimate lyrics as well as easy-going and light-hearted fun.
