In 1843 London, author Charles Dickens finds himself in financial trouble after writing three unsuccessful novels in a row. Desperate for a hit, Dickens relies on real-life inspiration and his vivid imagination to bring Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and other classic characters to life in “A Christmas Carol,” forever changing the holiday season into the celebration known today.
The Man Who Invented Christmas tells of the magical journey that led to the creation of Ebenezer Scrooge (Christopher Plummer), Tiny Tim and other classic characters from A Christmas Carol. Directed by Bharat Nalluri (MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY), the film shows how Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) mixed real life inspirations with his vivid imagination to conjure up unforgettable characters and a timeless tale, forever changing the holiday season into the celebration we know today.

We’re pleased to welcome Nova Scotia’s favourite crooner back to King’s to mark the release of his new album, Simply Christmas, 10 years after Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas became a world-wide hit
About this year’s Christmas tour he says: “We’ll be doing pieces that range from swing to traditional songs like Let it Snow and The Christmas Song and White Christmas, as well as religious pieces, such as my favourite, O Holy Night,” Gracie says. “A song I wrote, Cape Breton Christmas Morn, has become a standard at these concerts, so I’ll be singing that. I’ve been known to throw some Tony Bennet in. I’ll ask the audience if they want that and they always agree.”
“Family has always been important to John and he has many stories about growing up in Cape Breton. They inspired him to write his hugely popular song, Cape Breton Christmas Morn,” Gracie’s wife and manager, Andree, says. “He writes about his mom baking pies, his dad singing from his big chair and the warmth of family gatherings. John’s father was dying from cancer when John wrote Cape Breton Christmas Morn, so it is filled with emotion and I think people feel that when they listen to it.”
The evening will also include stories from his childhood in Cape Breton, ranging from Stories of Christmases past from the morning he woke up to find a Fred Flintstone punching bag, or the great story of when his mother thought she bought him a Montreal Canadiens full outfit but made a big mistake.

About the Nutcracker

During the battle, Clara saves the Nutcracker’s life – so breaking a magical spell that turned him from a boy to a toy – and the Mouse King is defeated. In celebration, Drosselmeyer sweeps Clara and the Nutcracker off to the Kingdom of Sweets, where they meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and take part in a wonderful display of dances. The next morning, Clara’s adventures seem to have been more than just a dream.
