THE STANFIELDS
Mar 13 @ 7:30 pm

The Stanfields are a multiple award-winning five-piece Folk’n’Roll band based in Halifax, Canada. Combining Rock music with solid nods to Celtic and Americana – they play what they want, sing what they feel, and leave nothing on the table.

Formed in 2008, The Stanfields have since released 5 albums and toured extensively throughout North America and Europe, sharing the stage with Queens of the Stone Age, Flogging Molly, Frank Turner and Dropkick Murphys among many. Coming as no surprise to the band’s sizeable international fanbase,

The Stanfields have taken a “predictably-unpredictable” turn with their upcoming recording “Classic Fadeout” (January 2020 on GroundSwell/Believe), seeing the band draw upon relatively gentler influences such as The Band, Stray Gators-era Neil Young and 70’s west coast country rock and infusing them into their distinct, swaggering brand of storytelling folk’n’roll.

Jon Landry – Vox, Guitar, Harmonica,
Calen Kinney – Violin or Fiddle, Bouzouki, Vox
Jason MacIsaac – Guitar, Vox
Dillan Tate – Bass, Vox

THE LADYKILLERS
Mar 27 @ 7:30 pm

THE ANNAPOLIS DISTRICT DRAMA GROUP, Directed by Simon Bonnington, presents THE LADYKILLERS

Main Cast: Louis Harvey (David Witherow), Professor Marcus (George Clairmont), Harry Robinson (Ryan Hebert), Major Courtney (Bliss Om Rae), Mrs Wilberforce (Nancy Anderson), One-Round (Tim Danttouze). Photo by ANDREW TOLSON

Posing as a string quintet of amateur musicians, Professor Marcus and his gang of inept ne’er-do-well villains rent rooms in the lopsided house of an elderly widow, the sweet and eccentric Mrs Wilberforce. The crooks plot to involve her, unwittingly, in Marcus’ brilliantly conceived security-van heist.

The police are left stumped, but Mrs Wilberforce tumbles to the truth of their ruse and Marcus concludes that there is only one way to keep the old lady quiet. With only her parrot, General Gordon, to help her, Mrs Wilberforce is alone with five desperate men. But who will be forced to face the music?

Based upon the classic Ealing Studios 1955 movie that starred Alec Guiness, Herbert Lom and Peter Sellers, the stage adaptation of The Ladykillers was written by Graham Linehan in 2011 and premièred at the Liverpool Playhouse (England) later that year, with Peter Capaldi taking on the mantle as the insane but brilliant Marcus.

The play had its North American premiere last year at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Using a innovate set design which integrates two storeys within, as well as roof top, and rail-tracks below, Director Simon Bonnington is delighted to bring this play to the stage of King’s Theatre with the Annapolis District Drama Group – only the second production of the show on this continent!

LYNN MILES is one of Canada’s most accomplished singer/songwriters. With twelve albums to her credit, the winner of multiple Canadian Folk Music awards (2011 English Songwriter of the Year), and a 2003 Juno award for Roots and Traditional Solo Album of the Year, she has certainly found her strength over time. Through a career that has seen her move from Ottawa to Los Angeles and back again, with stops in Nashville and Austin TX., and a healthy touring schedule that regularly takes her through the US, Europe and across Canada, she has always created and performed music with unbridled feeling and vulnerability. Lynn’s song “Three Chords and the Truth” was recently chosen as the closing song on the popular BBC TV series “Case Histories”, and her new release “Downpour” has been receiving glowing reviews.

SUSAN CROWE is often described as a “writer’s writer”, and is one of Canada’s most respected singer songwriters in the folk genre. At once complex, challenging and accessible, Susan’s intelligent and moving songs have captivated audiences and reviewers from coast to coast, continent to continent. She possesses, in the words of Britain’s Folk Roots magazine, “that rare ability of crafting a lyric that bears scrutiny on its own terms.” That rare ability has earned her two Juno nominations, and nominations from both the West Coast and East Coast Music Awards. No stranger to King’s Theatre, we are THRILLED to have Susan back with THE MAVENS.

SHARI ULRICH: For over four decades, accomplished singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Shari Ulrich has been winning hearts across North America with her voice, songs and on-stage charisma. A two-time JUNO-winner among other awards, she has recorded 25 albums as a solo artist and with the legendary Pied Pumkin, The Hometown Band, UHF, BTU and The High Bar Gang.
