Their songs have been featured in the notorious music magazine MOJO’s Top 10 Playlist, and received a mass of acclaim from outlets such as the BBC, the CBC, Maverick Magazine and NPR, and have earned the duo the Grand Prize in the Maxell John Lennon Song Writing Contest. Madison Violet were on Germany’s WDR’s list of ‘Best Bands of All Time’ and with a bit of a departure from their rootsy sound, their single ‘These Ships’ was released in 2014 on one of the largest dance labels in the U.S., Ultra Records, garnering over 1,200,000 plays on Spotify. THE CLIMB
Jun 2 @ 7:30 pm

The set-up is simple: lifelong friends Mike and Kyle are out for a bike ride through the mountains in the south of France when Mike confesses that he slept with Kyle’s fiancée. In the hands of director Michael Angelo Covino (who also co-wrote and co-stars in the film), this confessional episode expands into an epic multi-year journey that navigates the ins and outs of a co-dependent friendship.

Traversing through family holidays, birthdays, ski trips, and, of course, bike rides, The Climb takes what could be a knucklehead display of toxic masculinity and — through an intelligent, surprising, and self-aware use of slapstick and whip-smart dialogue — steers it through the lives of two people who can’t seem to tear themselves apart from each other — and the destructive behaviour they resort to in the process.

Eschewing many standard techniques of cinematic comedy, Covino relies on a series of beautifully choreographed single takes, one for each scene, allowing many of the most hilarious moments to come from the least expected places in the frame. With each comedic escalation, The Climb makes us not only cackle at the absurdity of its scenarios, but also ponder complex questions about the nature of male friendships.

“A Brilliant Reinvention of the Buddy Comedy.” –Indiewire

“Toxic masculinity is played for rich and revealing farce in writer-director Michael Angelo Covino’s assured feature debut, told over multiple years.” The Toronto Star

THE LUMBER JILLS &

INN ECHO:

A Maritime Celtic Double Bill!

Nestled against the cliffs and dunes of the Atlantic Ocean, the Maritime have produced some of the greatest traditional music players known the world over. We invented the kitchen party and we’re proud to host the next generation of incredible players to you.  Join us for a special concert of flying feet, old time fiddles, Irish concertia, celtic guitar and plank’er down piano at The Kings Theatre!

New Brunswick’s Canadian Folk Music Nominees THE LUMBER JILLS go bow to bow with MUSIC PEI nominees, INN ECHO, for an exciting wave over wave ride of jigs and reels. Eight incredible multi-instrumentalists, with singers and step-dancers among them, encompass the spirit of a Maritime ceilidh.

Before they head out on tour this summer to major festivals in France, British Columbia and every-where in-between; we’ve invited them to start a fire in the kitchen right here in Annapolis Royal. The heart of Nova Scotia, is of course the best place to rosin a bow!
