Sparkle Dance Academy and King’s Theatre’s Next Gen Break Dance program are collaborating to bring another awesome showcase of youth performance!

Sparkle Dancers will share group pieces to open their summer show season, the Break Dancers will unleash new routines and new skills and Special guest DJ HieroPhunk will be spinning world beats,  driving the show through live mixing.

With Bollywood, Jazz, Contemporary, Belly Dance, Break Dancing and more – this show brings organic dance improv to a new level.   Dancers will perform to music they have never heard, audience members will choose the dance style for dancers to solo in-the-moment… it’s going to be FULL of the inspirational youth creativity right here from our local communities.

Proceeds will support King’s Theatre’s FrontRowYouth initiative.

Dance Instructor Wendy Goudie created Sparkle Dance Academy in 2001 in BC Focused on World Dance, this performance school has enjoyed a successful 20+ years in BC, with several locations. The school’s dancers have performed throughout Canada, and internationally in Greece, Thailand, France, Australia, and India. She has received many acknowledgements such as Okanagan Arts Awards – Contribution to Dance in 2012, Penticton Arts Council Dance Award 2012 & 2016. Wendy was named Arts Educator of the Year in 2018. Wendy has performed and taught Bollywood Bellydance throughout Canada. In 2018 she completed a month long performance and workshop tour in North India. She was a invited to perform as a finalist on the dance show “Indian Icon” in 2019. Now settled in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, Sparkle Dance has programs on each coast. Wendy is passionate about teaching youth life skills through the art of non-competitive performance.

DJ HieroPhunk! Hailing from Halifax, NS she spins a masterclass in genre-bending beats that will make your body move and your soul soar. HieroPhunk’s style is all about transcendence – she takes the classic sounds of house music and weaves them into a tapestry of sound that is hypnotic and otherworldly. Hierophunk reads the room like a tarot deck, with each track building upon the last to create a transformative experience for her listeners. DJ HieroPhunk has travelled the world and performed at club residencies and festival stages all over North America, Spain and Mexico. She is currently the co-founder of Halifax Ecstatic Dance and has a residency at the Maritime Express Ballroom where you can catch her spinning all summer. THE NEXT GEN THEATRE PROJECT is an initiative of King’s Theatre that includes free workshops for both adults and youth to build on the community’s passion for creating theatre. The aim is to celebrate diversity, resilience & belonging in Kespukwitk. The project is supported by Canadian Heritage’s Celebration and Commemoration Program, Reopening Fund.
